ABOUT GAPIDRAW

GapiDraw 1.0 was first released in early 2002. GapiDraw has since then been used in hundreds of commercial mobile games, including major titles such as EverQuest for the Pocket PC by Sony Online Entertainent. We used to keep a list of all mobile games produced with GapiDraw but stopped in 2004 when the number of titles surpassed 150.

"We spent several months early on testing the available graphics APIs, as well as evaluating the development of our own in-house API, finally deciding that GapiDraw offered the most potential for a long-term solution."

Many game developers today targetting mobile devices quickly realize two things:

  1. Compatibility Matters. If you want to release a big title today you want to make sure it works with most devices out there. You cannot just develop your game with hardware accelerated DirectX graphics and hope that enough devices with hardware acceleration will appear soon enough, you need a high performance software blitter to provide legacy support for older devices as well to make a revenue.

  2. DirectDraw Has Several Limitations. Just a quick peek at the iPhone UI shows dozens of images being drawn with a variable alpha map (commonly called a RGBA surface). DirectDraw on Windows Mobile devices does not support this. If you want to provide the best 2D graphics there is today for Windows Mobile devices, you still have to code it yourself in software.

GapiDraw provides a production proven and high performance software blitter, that fills the gaps that DirectDraw does not provide. GapiDraw has been tested on literally any Microsoft device out there, including Pocket PC 2000, 2002, 2003, 2003SE, Windows Mobile 5, and Windows Mobile 6 devices (and even a few more).

Some popular games developed with GapiDraw include EverQuest for the Pocket PC, Tower Mogul, Resco Guardians, Atlantis Redux and FirePower - Onrush.

Thanks to it's proven name with mobile game developers, GapiDraw has also become popular among developers of mobile business applications. Some applications released using GapiDraw include the weather watching application Storm Hawk (as seen in the figure on the right) and the mobile cad system Pocket CAD.

Recently we have also sold source code licenses to some of the major brands in the mobile media industry. Due to non-disclosure agreements we unfortunately cannot list the names of these companies on our web site, but trust us - if you see an advanced mobile media application running on the Windows Mobile platform, chances are high that it is based on the robust and high performing GapiDraw platform.

GapiDraw is developed by a small and dedicated team of developers located in Göteborg, Sweden. In parallel with developing GapiDraw we also do consultancy work for large international companies focusing on mobile strategies and large-scale application development.

Being able to both work as consultants and product developers enables us to keep a low price point and a very generous licensing deal on GapiDraw. It's also a guarantee for you, as the customer, that we will not stop supporting GapiDraw if we suddenly don't sell as much licenses as expected. We love developing for Windows Mobile, and plan to continue to do so for a very long time to come..
